Ultimate weekend of motorsport for Queenslanders
22-07-2010
Two wheels, four wheels, sideways and skyward will be the order of the weekend as Ipswich’s Queensland Raceway hosts the fifth round of the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championships (ASBK) plus a host of exciting supports and features on August 21 and 22.

Joining the headline Superbike, Supersport, Superstock and 125/250cc categories will be the popular pocket rocket series with motorcycle DNA, the Aussie Racing Cars, plus a full field of the country’s best vying for honours in the Australian Supermoto Open.

Australia’s most established freestyle motocross team, Showtime FMX, will up the tempo with a number of daily demonstrations of the sport’s most exciting tricks, performed by Crusty riders.

Championship promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG) is aiming to provide spectators with variety and value in what will be a ‘must attend’ for all motorsport fans.

“Queenslanders are passionate about their motorsport and have always gotten behind the Australian Superbike Championship in the Sunshine State,” said Yarrive Konsky, IEG Managing Director. “This round will be pivotal for a number of classes which will be battling to the last lap of the last race to decide the eventual champion.

“We’re adding to the spectacle of the regular classes by including the evenly-matched and entertaining Aussie Racing Cars plus hosting the Australian Supermoto Open for this exciting category’s best to showcase their skills and that signature sideways action.

“Demonstrations from the Showtime FMX riders will inject further excitement into the weekend and ensure fans of all ages - two wheels and four - are catered for.”

Tickets are available for one and two-day entry to the event from $20, with the family pass - $80 for 2 adults and 3 children - providing a big saving.

“Creating a family-friendly atmosphere is important, as is pricing tickets to ensure value for all of our fans,” added Konsky.

Gates open from 8am daily to fit a packed schedule of racing featuring over 150 competitors.

The battle for honours in the premier Viking Group ASBK class picks up where it left off at the previous event, where Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing’s Bryan Staring picked up a spectacular debut double - race and round wins.

Staring heads the points standings with Demolition Plus GAS Honda’s Wayne Maxwell in hot pursuit, marginally ahead of 2009 champion Team Suzuki’s Josh Waters.

7 manufacturers - Honda, Suzuki, Aprillia, KTM, Ducati, BMW and Yamaha - will feature in the combined Superbike/Superstock 1000 A&B race making for one of the most diverse fields of machinery in the global ranks of Superbike racing.

Ticketing details:
Saturday - Adult $25 / Concession $20 / Family n/a
Sunday - Adult $35 / Concesssion $25 / Family n/a
Two-day - Adult $40 / Concession $30 / Family $80

There's a time to scream and a time for silence : a time for truth against the lies
A time to hide and a time to make a stand : Now's the time for me to rise

I like my sex like I like my ice cream. Vanilla and low fat.
